Signalling Compression - SigComp

  • Signalling Compression - abbreviated SigComp - is defined by a series of RFCs. The technology shall be applied in mobile networks to reduce bandwidth demand for signalling - especially when text-based protocols like SIP are used in the context of the 3GPP IMS (IP Multimedia Subsystem).
    Kai Tetzlaff and Dieter Flick have commonly analysed the technology and Kai has presented the results to a customer whose products may need to support SigComp.

  • An introduction to the techniques used to increase bandwith on the UMTS radio interface elaborated and presented by Marija Skoda as a technology update for her adare team colleagues.
    The presentation covers the technical approaches for HSDPA implementation, the channels newly introduced in UMTS Release 5, the impact of HSDPA on the UMTS protocol architecture and a selection of HSDPA mobility aspects. The presentation closes with a brief outlook beyond Release 5.
